24.02.10: A Robotic Telescope Raffle!

Ever wish you could have your very own robotic telescope based at a world class dark sky site to utilize on those murky winter nights? Well, the American Association of Variable Star Observers (AAVSO) is having a raffle next month to award a winner a years’ free access to their recently established AAVSONet, a network of 5 robotic telescopes in New Mexico.

All that’s required is to observe and submit a weekly report on any one of the featured stars in their 10 Star Tutorial via their Citizen Sky Data Submission Tool. Only one entry per week counts towards the drawing, i.e. four is the max. And don’t think that you need a big fancy CCD photometer to compete; many of these stars are naked eye objects, and good old-fashioned judgment observations will do just fine. Once approved, the winner will get the privilege of submitting observing proposals just like the AAVSO big guns, and the winner will be announced in the first week of April… let the variable-star fest begin!
