The population of humans in space is about to increase by three tomorrow night, when Soyuz TMA-12M takes to skies over the Baikonur cosmodrome in a brilliant night launch. The launch is set to occur at 21:17 Universal Time (UT) or 5:17 PM EDT on Tuesday, March 25th for a four orbit, six hour “fast-track” docking on Wednesday at 3:04 UT/11:04 PM EDT. [Read more...]

Breaking News: Word is that the Falcon-9 launch has now been pushed back to Monday, January 6th… stay tuned for updates!

The year in spaceflight starts with a bang this Friday, as SpaceX launches the Thaicom 6 satellite atop a Falcon 9 rocket headed for geostationary orbit. The launch is set to occur out of Cape Canaveral Air Force Station on the Florida Space Coast, and the 132 minute window opens at dusk on January 3rd at 22:50 UT/5:50 PM EST. This is just 10 minutes after local sunset, guaranteeing that the launch will be visible across the Florida peninsula as it heads out over the Atlantic. [Read more...]

Astro-Vid Of the Week: Watch the Launch of Soyuz TMA-10M

Expedition 37/38 crew ready for launch!

The human population in space is about to increase by three this week with the launch of a Soyuz-FG rocket from the Baikonur Cosmodrome Wednesday night at 20:58 Universal Time/4:58PM Eastern Time.

This launch will put Roscosmos cosmonauts Oleg Kotov & Sergei Ryazansky and NASA astronaut Michael Hopkins on a our orbit, six hour fast track to the International Space Station. There they’ll join fellow Expedition 37 crew members Fyodor Yurchikhin, Karen Nyberg & Luca Parmitano aboard the ISS until returning in March of next year. Soyuz TMA-10M will also do duty as an “escape pod” for the next Expedition 38 crew. [Read more...]
